Sin City

When I was younger I wanted to make a great movie and use the actors I liked who I felt were very unappreciated, Ruger Hauer, Powers Booth, Mickey Rourke, ect.. Unfortunately, I never became a filmmaker. Fortunately, Robert Rodriguez did. Not only did I get to see these actors working together in a film, but they are working beside some of the best in the industry. The movie itself is a work of art. It's Beautiful and very true to the Frank Miller comic book. The stories move along nicely and kept my interest throughout. The performances were well above par, most notably those of Mickey Rourke as the tough-as-nails "Marv" and Nick Stahl as "Yellow Bastard". The character that will haunt me the most, however, is the silent assassin "Kevin", played by Elijah Wood. Virtually no emotional acting was required, but the visual imagery of the character is the stuff nightmares are made of.

Not since I was a kid have I watch a movie back to back, but I did with "Sin City" and enjoyed it almost as much the second time. One of the only problems I had with this film could be summed up best by Tuco from "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly": "When it's time to shoot, shoot don't talk". A common cliche with most action films that happens quite a bit here. In one scene, a character says that he's not going to make the same mistake as last time (by not killing a character on the spot, letting him get away) ...then breaks into more dialog. In a film where people get shot 10 times and not only survive but get restored to perfect health, you have to suspend disbelief. "Sin City" makes that easy because of what it is: a comic book on film, not a film loosely based on a comic book. This is an excellent movie and in my opinion, the best comic book adaptation movie ever made.
